Activities & Facilities
There’s a lot do to at Maple Leaf Park…
Begin by exploring our 28 acres of natural woodland, wildflower meadows, and campgrounds. Swim or fish in our sparkling lakes. Hike trails along flower-studded green spaces and through eight acres of diverse woodland. We host annual events and all or part of the park can be reserved for special events and group camping.
Spend a day with us bird watching. More than 40 species have been identified in the park, from the graceful egret and exotic-looking turkey vulture to a rainbow of songbirds like cardinals, indigo buntings, and goldfinches, plus nighthawks, owls, kingfishers; and many more.
Picnic amidst nature or in one of our pavilions. Bring the family or your sweetheart on a day trip of nature walks and picnicking. Relax with a good book beneath a shady tree. Enjoy the shores of Big Indian Creek or stroll in the woods where you might chance upon some of our abundant wildlife. Invite your cousins, classmates, or friends for your next reunion. Our pavilions make great places to gather and share memories over a potluck supper or catered barbecue.
Cool off on hot summer days with a dip in the lake or hook your first fish. Our scenic water attractions are more than just beautiful; they’re fun too! If you like to swim and splash, you’ll enjoy the cool crisp water and sandy beach of our swimming lake, while the angler’s out there will love the spring-fed fishing lake stocked with large and small mouth bass, catfish, hybrid bluegills, and rock bass. Boats are welcome or you can fish from shore. We sell bait, and you don’t need a license to fish inside the park, although you will need to bring your own gear. Groups and clubs are welcome—ask about reserving a pavilion for your day at the lake. And don’t forget the family pet!
Pitch your tent and gather around for a marshmallow roast—camp alone or bring a group. Maple Leaf Park offers some of the best camping in the area, with many campsites located along scenic Big Indian Creek. We welcome tents and RVs, individual campers or groups. Reservations are recommended whether booking a single site or several. We have all the amenities, including showers, electrical hookups, and firewood sales with delivery to your tent zipper. Alcohol is permitted in the park, although we ask that you use it responsibly. Shopping, restaurants, laundromat, drive-in theater, bowling, and golf are a short drive from the park. Ask about full- or partial-park reservations for group events and retreats.
While your camping or even if you’ve just come down for the day, why not enjoy our sports facilities? We have volleyball nets, horseshoe pits, basketball courts, softball diamonds, and a lineball field. And MLP has equipment for everything but fishing, so don’t worry if you forgot to pack yours! And don’t forget the family pet! Dogs are welcome to enjoy the park with you, but please see the guidelines under Camping & Fishing.
Our versatile Waterside facility with floor-to-ceiling windows overlooks our beautiful lakes and woodlands. An utterly charming venue, Waterside suits up to 90 guests and is air-conditioned and heated, making it ideal for meetings, wedding receptions, retreat-style gatherings, and fundraising events any time of year. Our experienced personnel can assist with decorations and catering, musicians and florists—anything you need for that glamorous reception or quiet luncheon. The facility has been used for corporate functions, church retreats, weddings, reunions, anniversary parties, birthdays, and much more. Whatever you imagine we can accommodate at Waterside!
Of course, all Maple Leaf Park offers might be just above average if not located in our gorgeous 28-acre park, where the earthy setting and our attentive staff make them exceptional! We invite you to picture your wedding among the trees, envision your next event beside our lake, or escape the hustle-bustle of the week with camping along the creek.
While your visiting Maple Leaf Park, why not take advantage of our neighborhood, too? The Paw Paw wind farm is just twenty minutes away—a must-see for anyone interested in how Illinois residents are working to protect the environment for future generations. And in nearby cities like Mendota and Ottawa, you’ll find antique shops, golf courses, historic sites, and museums.
